11 Months and Tubes

Paxton turned 11 months old on June 12th! I can't believe that he is going to be one in a few weeks!! He has turned into quite a funny boy these days...He is talking and babbling so much more and is starting to imitate vowel sounds and trying to say things that we say. He has also finally started saying mama (or muma) but mostly when he is mad or sad about something. He has also learned to throw temper tantrums lately...Andy and I just sit and watch him trying not to laugh but sometime we just can't help it because it is so cute! Paxton loves paper, plastic, the mail, cell phones, the remote, and his new walker...usually if he throws a fit it is because he can't have one of these things! Paxton is still being a stinker about crawling and walking and just prefers the army crawl but he is getting better about getting up on his hands and knees and he is standing up on everything! He is still not a big eater and has sworn off baby food but he is getting better about trying new things...currently his favorites are pancakes, Popsicles, watermelon, cantaloupe, and beans!Paxton got tubes in his ears on June 17th!! I was so excited for him to get them so that we could be free from ear infections for awhile! When they weighed him in he was only 17 pounds 8 ounces and 28 inches long!
He looked so cute in his little hospital pajamas...I really wanted to take them home but was afraid they would charge me a zillion dollars so I only took the little socks!
Playing trucks with Dad before going in...
When the nurse came to get him Pax held his arms out to him and away they went, he didn't even look back. I didn't know whether to be sad that he wasn't sad to leave us or happy that it was that easy!
I was so amazed surgery only lasted 15 minutes and he was done! He was a little bit sad when he came back to us but once he got his bottle and got to lay in the big bed and watch Mickey Mouse...he was good to go!
By the time we got back home he was back to his usual self!
We have noticed a huge difference since he got the tubes...I can totally tell that he can hear better...he is imitating sounds now and babbles all day long nonstop!!

Guest Room Makeover

This summer I have a goal to decorate a few rooms in our neglected basement. When we moved in we focused all of our energy on getting the upstairs put together and just left the basement alone. Originally we had put the guest bedroom upstairs but decided that it would be nice for guests to have a room downstairs with some privacy.
Here is the guest room before...hot pink on top with a white pattern on the bottom of the walls...Complete with a built in vanity...
And a Cinderella sticker on the wall...
Did I mention that the people who lived here before us had 4 little girls!

The downside with loving to decorate is that it costs money so we tried to do this bedroom as cheaply as possible. Everything in this room we either already had and refurbished, found at the DI, or made ourselves. Thank goodness for my mom..she came to my rescue and painted the room and hung up the curtains! Without her this would still be a work in progress!
Here is the finished result!! I love it!
This was an old dresser of Andy's (sorry I didn't take a better picture.) We spray painted it with Krylon Bahama Sea and added new glass knobs...
and wham bam...looks like a totally different dresser!
I found these old pillows in my mom's house..washed them up and made slipcovers for them...
and they turned out so cute!
I still have one more to make but am debating on the design!
Overall with paint and linens and everything in the room we were able to redecorate it for under $75! One room down only about 20 to go...
Next project: The Playroom

Troublemaker

Most of the time he is so sweet and innocent but our little guy is turning into quite a troublemaker. Here are some of the things that he has been into lately...He loves the vents...loves them!! He likes to stick his fingers in them and now that we have the AC on he likes to lay right on top of them or blow on them.
When we get out his toys in the morning he is not satisfied unless EVERYTHING is out for him to play with. His favorite toy in that pile...our old TV remote! We recently bought him a walker, he loves it but unfortunately it is the same height as the garbage can...normally I am pretty quick to shut the laundry room door but Pax was super speedy yesterday and had the garbage knocked down and spread around before I could even get there.
He has also mastered pulling himself up to the toy box that is in our family room. Now he can not only pull himself up to it but he can also climb on top of it which typically results in him falling off.
He loves the entertainment center..especially the glass door...I guess that is what I get when I put a basket of his books in there!
And last but not least...his favorite spot to hang out...the cupboard on the bottom of the entertainment center. He could hang out in there all day so we just decided to go with it and fill it with toys!

Memorial Day 2010

Andy was lucky enough to get Memorial Day off this year so we were able to spend sometime with his family. About 8:00 Sunday night we decided we were going to have a practice camp out in the back yard to see how Paxton would do! Unfortunately we picked the windiest night of the year and ended up only making it for 2 hours before we got too cold and went inside. Paxton slept the whole time totally oblivious to what was going on or where he was so maybe we will survive camping (on a warm night) after all! The next day I reluctantly agreed to hiking with Andy's family. They had wanted to hike to Timpanogos Cave but unfortunately when we got there it was a 3 hour wait. We ended up driving up the canyon to Tibble Fork Reservoir and hiking a few smaller hikes around the lake!
Andy definitely got his exercise that day!
Paxton loved hiking!
It is easy when you get to be carried and eat cookies and drink ice water...I think I would love hiking if I got that kind of treatment!
Don't worry this is before we started...that's why I still have a smile on my face. Two hours later I'm sure I didn't look so pleasant!
We had the family over later that night for a barb-e-que at our house! Andy did a great job cooking and we played some fun games of lasso golf and dodgeball.
What a great weekend!

10 Months Old...

Paxton turns 10 months old on the 12th! It has been a busy month at the Hamberlin's...Paxton is a pretty busy boy and is learning new things everyday!
He continues to have pretty bad allergies...this was his first time sitting outside on the grass and as soon as we went inside he broke out in a pretty bad rash. It looks like we are back on our daily dose of Zyrtec.Pax is obsessed with his books...he has a huge basket of board books in his room and is continually tipping it over, pulling out the books, and flipping through the pages. He can't get enough. Right now he loves Peek a Book books (especially his favorite kitty Summer). He loves to give kisses to all of the animals and people on the pages. He loves animals...especially animal noises. He also is loves singing and dancing. His favorite songs are Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes and Slippery Fish. He is babbling more and has learned some new sounds including F and S. He also says Da Da and Hi pretty consistently.
We have started the baby proofing at our house! Paxton is starting to pull himself up to everything...the other day we sat there and watched him stand up in his crib and then we immediately moved the mattress down. We also had to get a baby gate because he is all over the house. He is still too lazy to crawl on his hands and knees and just prefers to army crawl or walk with Mom or Dad's help. He may just skip crawling all together. He has learned how to wave and is so stinkin proud of himself...he waves to everybody and everything with a huge grin on his face! We are also working on clapping and blowing kisses but he just giggles every time we try to get him to do it.
Paxton has gotten into some pretty bad sleeping habits lately. Anytime he gets too close to the top, bottom or sides of the crib he just cries until we come in and move him back to the middle and cover him back up. At first he was waking up about 5 times a night but, after letting him fix the problem himself a few times, he now only wakes up once or twice a night. Lately he has decided that he prefers sleeping like this...
We have also been working on Paxton's eating this month. He loves to drink ice water but only out of a cup with no lid or straw so we go through a few outfits a day after he (or mostly Dad) soaks him with ice water! He still isn't really into baby food...one day he will like it and the next day he won't want a thing to do with it so we have decided to just let him eat more real food. He has tried alot of new things...pancakes, pickles, french fries, ice cream, strawberries, bananas, bread, noodles, popsicles, and more!
WE SURE LOVE OUR BIG BOY!!
Update: Andy took Pax to the doctor today because of yet another ear infection...he is now 18 pounds 3 ounces and is 27 1/2 inches tall...

Sadly byu blue :( :(

Out with the old... In with the new!!
Explorer...you were good to us for many years but we most definitely will not miss:
  • Your constantly blinking check engine light
  • The shaking and shuttering when you were idling at a stoplight
  • The many months that all of the doors were broken...some you could only open from the inside, some from the outside
  • Your lack of armrests on the drivers side and passenger side doors...oh wait don't forget the little screw that scratched my arm every time I tried to find somewhere to rest it
  • Your heater...that would only work on defrost and AC that only worked on max Ac
  • The daily stress of wondering whether Andy would make it home at night or if I was going to have to go rescue him from the side of the freeway

We love the new car! Only downside:

  • BYU blue

You Know it's Time for Summer Vacation When...

You actually show up to school looking like this... And to make matters worse you didn't even notice until 2 HOURS LATER when a cute little girl asked you if it was crazy shoe day at school...um no apparently I've just lost my mind!!
