I was scheduled to be induced on January 17th, 5 days before my due date! I was GBS positive and already pretty far dialated so Dr. Anderson was afraid that I would go into labor on my own and because my labors are typically fast, and you have to have 2 doses of antibiotics 4 hours apart when you are GBS positive, we decided inducing me a little early was the best way to go.
I was scheduled to be at Mountain View at 6 am on Friday the 17th. We got all checked in (luckily I remembered to pre-register this time) and headed up to labor and delivery. They got me settled into my room but unfortunately the computer in the room had crashed so the nurse had to make a bunch of phone calls and reset everything a couple of times before she could get it working again. After about 30 minutes the computers were up and working and we were ready to go. Then we had another time delay...shift change! Finally at about 7:30 my IV was in, the monitors were on, and my antibiotics were dripping! One of the things I love about labor is constantly being able to hear the baby's heartbeat...I love that sound! Andy left around 8 to go get the boys off to the babysitter and my mom got there shortly after that. They started the potocin around 9:00 (after my first bag of antibiotics was done dripping) and the contractions started picking up...slowly at first but at least I could feel them and knew that progress was being made! About that same time Dr. Anderson came in so see how things were progressing...unfortunately I had only gone from a 3 1/2 to a 4 so it was progress but it was slow! He said he needed a nap (he has been up half the night with another delivery) and would be back around 10:30-11:00 to break my water.
Between 9:30 and 11:00 the contractions were coming stronger and stronger and I was getting pretty anxious to get my epidural. Dr. Anderson came back around 11:00 and broke my water...at that point I was only dialated to a 5 but knew if I didn't get my epidural soon I would regret it because once he breaks my water, I usually dialate pretty quickly! The anesthesiologist came in right after Dr. Anderson and gave me my epidural. Shortly after he left I started feeling really weird...my ears started ringing, I started loosing feeling in my face, and I was feeling really nauseous...I felt like I was sinking into my own body...like I was going to pass out. It was the strangest worst feeling I have every had...it turns out my blood pressure had dropped dramatically which sometimes happens with epidurals. The nurses jumped into action and injected something into my IV and I slowly started coming to again. Just as I was starting to feel almost normal again, I remember asking the nurse, "What is my blood pressure?" and then the sinking feeling came back...another injection into the IV and finally about 15 minutes later I was back and thanks to the epidural not feeling anymore pain! Around 12:00 they started my 2nd bag of antibiotics...I was so relieved to see that medicine dripping through my IV because it meant that they wouldn't have to prolong my labor for much longer and that Kyson could be born with little risk for infection from GBS.
Around 12:30 my mom noticed that the baby was having a few decelerations in his heartrate..."Must be a cord" she said. About 2 minutes later the nurse came in and said, "Must be a cord somewhere let's get you on some oxygen." She said she would be back to check me in an hour to see how I was progressing. Apparently they had 3 ladies in labor at the same time and for them that is a very busy day so they were feeling a little scattered and short handed.
About 1:40 they came back in the room and checked me again...I was only at a 7 and feeling pretty disappointed! The nurse set up the room for delivery just in case and left to go call Dr. Anderson to let him know where I was at. After she left I started feeling a little bit of pressure, luckily at that moment (about 1:55) Dr. Anderson walked in. He checked me and I was complete and ready to deliver...I had gone from a 7 to a 10 in 15 minutes or less! Within 5 minutes he was gowned up, had everything set up, and was ready to go before the nurses even got back to the room...I think he would have just delivered the baby without them if they had not have hurried and got in there!
I started pushing at 2:05ish and after pushing through 1 contraction Kyson was born!

When Kyson was born I was in a little bit of shock...my first thought was "What just happened...that was so fast!" and my 2nd thought was "Look at all that hair!!" He was a little bit grey when he came out and required a little bit of oxygen to get him going and get his color back.
Kyson weighed in at 6 pounds 8 ounces and was 20 inches long...exactly the same as Tegan!!

He is definitely a Hamberlin...I have a picture of both of his brothers right after they were born that look just like this...crazy pinky toe and all! Sadly he does not have the hairy backpatch birthmark that both of his brothers have!

We are so grateful that Kyson is here and healthy! So far he is proving to be much like his brothers...sweet and mellow! Let's hope it lasts!
