The Joys of Homeownership

Well the excitement we had over our new house was quickly diminished when we went over to check out the house for the first time after it officially became ours. When we walked into the house all we could see was all of the work that we had ahead of us. The previous owners had not cleaned a thing...in 7 years but had managed to hang up about 120 pictures on the walls...all with anchor screws that had to be ripped out of the walls. They also did a very interesting reverse 2 tone self paint job with the most unappealing shade of tan that you can imagine. Did I mention the carpet...oh the carpet was bad. We were not super happy! Oh wait did I also forget to mention the 5 two inch holes that they drilled through one wall so that they could snake their flat screen tv wires through them to the plug. I still wonder what was uglier, the wires or the huge holes in the wall...

By the time that we got all of the holes filled and the walls washed it was obvious that the whole upstairs needed to be painted, doors, walls, baseboards, trim...everything. Luckily we have great families who have helped up a ton. Andy's family has spent a few nights this week up to the house helping us patch, sand, and texture holes, clean, and prime baseboards and trim. My mom, Jessica, and Jake came up for the weekend to help and managed to get the whole main part of the house painted in one day! Tomorrow we are hoping to get the bedrooms and hallway painted. Here are some before and after pictures of whats been going on at our house.
This is a before picture of the family room. Here is an up close picture of the beautiful reverse 2 tone paint job...throughout the entire house!

After a long day of hard work...It looks 700 times better than before We will continue to post pictures as we get more work done!! Thanks again everybody for your help...we don't know what we would have done without you!!

It looks AWESOME so far with what you all have done. It will be finished soon and you'll get moved in and it will all be worth it!

I wish we could do a lifestyle background check on homeowners before we move in. My sister used a wet sponge to wash a white line on the dark gray walls so she could scrub the top half and me the bottom. Sick! Good work on your place. It looks more like 7 million times better!

WOW! It sounds/looks like you guys have some projects! Good times! At least you have a house though, that is SO exciting! Sorry to tell you, we're staying in Iowa. Maybe we'll be back next year...

It looks so much better! You are amazing. What fun home-ownership sounds like. But just think how great it will be when it is all done:)

We're excited for your little boy. I thought that's what you'd be having. Keep up the hard work on your house and hopefully it will all be perfect just in time for his arrival (if not sooner!).
