Paxton's Surgery

Paxton had surgery on March 3rd to remove his tonsils and adenoids and put in a 2nd set of ear tubes...
Here is a before shot of Paxton in his cute little hospital jammies. We had to be at the hospital at 6:30 am and Paxton had to fast from midnight until after the surgery. Surprisingly he didn't ask for his bottle one time! Hanging out with Dad before surgery...his nose must have been bugging him that day...most of the pictures I have of him looks like he is picking his nose!
They came and got Paxton at 7:40 and took him back into surgery...he went with the nurse and didn't even look back.
He was out of surgery by 8:30...Dr. Ence came back and let us know that everything had gone really well and that Paxton's tonsils were actually much bigger and more deeply embedded than he had originally though so I guess it is a good thing we got them out! We went and waited for Paxton up in his room in pediatrics. When they wheeled Paxton in he was just coming out of the anesthesia...the poor boy couldn't figure out what was going on. He cried and cried and his face was so swollen and puffy...finally after a cuddle with Dad and a bottle he settled down enough to watch his show. We knew he was feeling a little bit better when he started naming all of the animals in his movie! We spent a lot of time in the hospital watching TV and cuddling...All was going well in the hospital and we were optimistic that we were going to be able to go home that afternoon. The nurse brought Paxton in a popsicle and he was so excited to eat it! He wanted "more and more" unfortunately i couldn't get it to him fast enough...he got so mad that he held his breath, turned blue, and passed out...his oxygen stats dropping to 50%. Andy and I were freaking out and the nurses came rushing into the room as he was coming out of it. He had a hard time maintaining his oxygen for about 15 minutes after that so they decided to put him on nasal oxygen...which he hated!! Unfortunately our hope of going home that day was out of the question and they kept us there for the night!
He did really well through the night and by the next morning we were all ready to get out of there! The nurse came in at 7:30 am and removed his IV and oxygen sensor...once he could walk around again he was one happy boy and just as excited as we were to get out of there!

We are so grateful for how well everything has gone with this surgery! Since we got home Paxton has spent a lot of time cuddling with mom and dad and watching movies! He is doing surprisingly well...except for when it comes to taking his medicine (it takes 2 of us to hold him down!) He is back to eating soft solid foods today and seems to be getting back to his usual self!!
