Oh Thanksgiving...where do I even begin? We got to host Thanksgiving at our house this year for the Hamberlin Family...there were going to be about 30 people coming which is not too many compared to Brown Family or Meyer Family gatherings! I spent days planning, searching pinterest for recipes and decorations...everything to make it a perfect Thanksgiving. So let's start with the turkey...
I put Andy in charge of seasoning the big bird before we put it in the roasting pan! Well when we were done we went to put it in the pan and of course...it wouldn't fit! Off to Walmart I went to get a roasting pan! So we got the turkey in the oven, the yams and potatoes cooking, the house cleaned and decorated and we were ready to go!
Around 2:00 the family started coming over...all of the cousins were excited to find each other and to get in their seats and get ready to eat! Paxton and Tegan got to sit with their cousins Kenyon and Jordan at the "little boys" table! They had fun coloring their names and decorating the table with their artwork!
Tegan took over Evan's spot at the table and colored his plate and place card for him!
Well 2:30 rolls around and the family is all here...we pull out the turkey (which had defrosted for 4 days) and it is beautiful and golden brown on the outside...and almost raw on the inside. Are you kidding me...weeks of preparing and planning and the dang turkey didn't cook!! I almost don't even want to get into the chaos that followed but it included a meat thermometer, a microwave, and a timeout in my room for me! In the end everything worked out...absolutely not the way I wanted it to but it was fine and everyone had a great time. Thanksgiving is about family (not a perfect turkey) and we were all there and all together and there was food on the table! At least I don't have to host Thanksgiving again for at least another 10 years...when that happens, I think we will have ham!!
