Suggestions Please!!

Switching Paxton to cereal and baby food has been quite a chore for us!! We wish that when he saw that spoon coming towards his mouth we would see this face... But the second he sees the food his lips clamp shut. Then when we finally get him to open up (which typically requires rapping, singing, tricking, or opening his mouth for him) the food goes in and we get this...
He just sits there with the food in his mouth refusing to swallow until he finally gags.
We have tried different chairs, different foods, different mixtures, different temperatures...practically everything!!
Suggestions please...what has worked for you?

Hello Hello! You know, Thomas wouldn't really take solids at first either...I don't honestly think it worked until he started getting hungry...that milk simply wasn't enough. If he seems really hungry, but just won't eat, one thing we tried that helped:

I'd nurse him/bottle feed him just a little, so that he wasn't desperately hungry, then we'd go to the kitchen and offer him some solids, and then we'd go back and end with nursing to make sure that he was full. Sounds weird? Maybe, but it was nice that he wasn't getting frustrated because of too much hunger when he was trying to figure out the solids thing.

My little niece wouldn't have anything to do with solids until she was 10 months, and then she just started needing more than milk, and finally took to it.

Paxton is so so cute, it makes me happy to see you guys doing so well.

I totally understand your frustration. This should be one of the easier parts of parenting, right? Some babies will just open their mouths for anything and some won't. It's totally normal, don't let it stress you out. Maybe he just needs a little more time. Every kid is different, some just don't like baby food and prefer real food. It won't effect his growth or development. My son Max defied all laws of nature by consuming microscopic amounts of food and yet continued to grow.
Those wackos that say you have to start with baby food obviously don't know that baby cereal and baby food is nothing special (and it's tasteless).
Mike has said to me several times, "They eat what tastes good."
Good luck, I know you'll figure out what works for Paxton, who, by the way, is getting more adorable in every post

Just wait. Nash wouldn't eat anything solid until he was like 11 months old. I recently read an article that said it's best to wait until 8 months because that's when their digestive system is fully equipped to handle solids. Also, taste what he's eating. If it's gross to you, it's gross to him. Blend up what you're eating. I also read another article recently that said babies in all other countries start right off with what the rest of the family is eating. Why do we start with nasty stuff? Get a baby food grinder. They are fantastic.
